“Brain-iac”

If you are as old as I, you may remember some of the science-fiction movies that were so popular in the 1950’s. I worked at a movie theater from age 13 to 16 and I saw virtually every movie that came along (and for FREE!).
One of those (B-grade, not very realistic but still “scary”) films was entitled “Brain-iac“. I’m sure it was a take-off on the “Eniac” computer, the first “commercially available” mainframe computer developed in 1946. Incidentally, Eniac had about 100 bytes of memory – by comparison, your thumb has 5000! However, it was a start. The U.S. Census Bureau bought the first one. It cost $1 million and the printer was $185,000.
Actually, the first “modern” computer was built in 1936 but it was a prototype and was never placed into service. Notice that I said modern
because a form of computer was designed by Leonardo DaVinci some 500 years ago. He never tried to make one, though. And, the Chinese made a “computer” with gears and cogs that calculated the movement of the sun, stars and planets over 3,000 years ago! Some would call it a clock or a calendar but it DID perform simple calculations, based on the year and position of the stars.
In 1951, “Univac”, built by Rand, not IBM, had over 20,000 vacuum tubes and diodes! Lights would dim in the city when they turned it on! It took up a whole large room.
Getting back to the movie, “Brain-iac”, it featured a “computer” system that controlled everything in the known world. In the course of the movie, the main characters were escorted into a high-security, multi-story building and, upon entering the “Control Room”, right in the center of this highly-instrumented room was a pedestal. Sitting on top of that pedestal was a glass dome and under the glass was a human head. There were wires connected to the head, whose eyes were blinking and looking around.
The “guide” explained that this “person” was selected because he was most highly educated and was intellectually superior to everyone else. His head (brain) was removed from his body, since the body was no longer needed. His brain (thoughts) was controlling everything in that world!
Probably this was a forerunner (in the 50’s) of what they thought might be happening in the future. I also remember the George Orwell book and the movie “1984“. Published in 1949, it is set in an arbitrary future year and focuses on a repressive, totalitarian regime. It was controlled by highly restrictive, computer-controlled video – security systems, and dominated by their leader, “Big Brother” (who “is watching YOU!)”.
I wonder if we are very close (if not a few decades behind) of what that book was warning ? London, England, has +10,000 closed-circuit surveillance cameras all over that city. You cannot go anywhere in London without being tracked by their system. This is a good thing; providing security for a large city. But, it could be used in a way that might deprive or invade one’s privacy, etc. A person cannot scratch a nose without it being recorded. Greater London has a population of over 7 ½ million (2007)! There are 4 video cameras in this London picture (of a side-street intersection)!
More and more cities in the U.S. are also implementing these systems, primarily for traffic control and trapping (ticketing) violators, as well as security monitoring of troublesome areas and neighborhoods.
Now we are being made aware of “surveillance” devices that once were hidden from us. For instance, the latest is that “the government’ (FBI) has the capability to not only track where you are (by the GPS in your cell phone) but that they can actually hear everything going on around you, through the mic on the phone, even if the cell phone is turned off! Only removing the battery will disable it.
For around ten years every new automobile has a “black box” installed when it leaves the factory. In this device are computer chips that are constantly updating, real-time, the “last” 30 seconds of drive time. The information being stored includes the mileage, your speed, the time of day, when you touched the brakes, removed your foot from the gas, etc. No one knows for sure the details behind these installations but it has been intimated that the auto insurance conglomerates had arranged to have these installed (with the cost appropriated into the selling price of the car, of course!).
The information stored within helps insurance companies to determine blame in questionable accidents. The police agencies then started using these data to place fault as well as assign citations for traffic violations. And, we are paying for these “intrusive” devices without knowing they are even in place, snooping on ourselves. It has been tested in court and the judiciary has always decided that they are not an invasion of privacy.
But wait, there’s more! Your microwave oven has a computer, as does your refrigerator and many other products. Think they are not connected to the Internet?? The commercial power grid (your electric power company) has the largest network in the USA – the power lines! They go into every home. For years, in some areas, they have been “reading your meter” by sending its data back to their billing office.
And, the most obvious is your cable AND satellite systems. They monitor your “viewing habits” to generate “poll” information and to know who is watching what program.
All of these devices are now in place, and with just a little “tweaking” they can gather and report virtually any information.
As always, I have the obligation to draw in the spiritual side of these types of articles! It would appear that we are drawing closer and closer to a totalitarian state (nation) and indeed, a one-world government.
These devices of control and encroachment into our liberties further enhance and pave the way for the anti-Christ to come forth and usurp total domination of all peoples.
Be prepared (and alerted); his methods are devious yet subtle!
Is “Big Brother” watching you???
