“The Death of the Christian Church in America”

Recently a book appeared touting the failure or demise of the Christian Church in the United States. I don’t intend to review that book here but it did make some valid points. However there was no emphasis given to the historical “Church” of Jesus!
Certainly there are movements afoot that are obvious attempts to silence the Church. Much of it is politically-motivated and some is prompted by other “religions” that are manipulating our laws, our Constitution and our leaders to effect their agenda against our God.
On the one hand, certain things that the Church is “obliged” to stand against are being established as “protected areas” by the Government and there are bills being considered or laws already on the “books” that will attempt to silence criticism by the Church. Two of them are abortion (murder of infants) and homosexuality/same-sex marriage.
We know about murder, it is listed in the Ten Commandments from God (you remember the Ten Commandments, don’t you? “They” have tried to obliterate that, but it is still around). However, regarding homosexuality, the Bible is full of references that say homosexuality amounts to “an abomination (not Obama-nation) before God”. Lev. 18:22 “‘You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination” is just one example. There are many more. If you are not sure of the severity of that, look up the definition of the word “abomination”.
Now “they” are in the process of passing laws that will make it a felony for a preacher to “condemn” or preach against same sex marriage, homosexuality or abortion. They threaten to shut down the churches where these “violations” occur.
Here’s an alert to our learned (?) politicians – Caesar and many leaders tried to silence the early Church. So, they went (literally) “underground”, meeting in the catacombs (subterranean graveyards), amongst the trees in the forests, and in private homes. Even when they were caught and executed, God allowed a few survivors, to begin afresh.
In recent memory, the USSR thought they had squelched the Church and its leaders for 70 years but God had His people, and they met and worshipped, even under threat of death. Another so-called atheistic nation, China, did the same but God’s remnant survived and led an underground Church that totaled many millions more Christian than we have ever had in America!
You can imprison us preachers, you can slaughter our congregations, but the tried and proven fact is that the Church of Jesus Christ will survive and flourish IN SPITE of your greatest efforts!
Then, soon, Jesus will return in all His Glory and take His throne as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In His timing, each of you who placed a hand on His Church, whether you are dead or alive at the time, will stand before Him to answer to your actions!
Be prepared for the inevitable; the obvious!

Bring it, Brother Danny!
I remember sending you an email a few months ago where I expressed my sentiments on where most evangelical churches are headed. Many, I believe, will capitulate to the dictates of government to save their “flesh” but lose their soul. Much the same can be seen in other countries of the world today where the Bride of Christ is underground, the apostate is visible.
U.S. churches are walking much the same boulevard as the churches of Europe did and look what situation they find themselves in now. I concur that God will always have and has had, His witnesses. They are most of the time in the minority. Much like the great saints of old, we need to be faithfully strong in our confession of faith and bring in the harvest.
Thank you to you for being that faithful servant and witness, lo many years ago who presented the Gospel to my dead spirit.
Pressing on, contending for the faith,
R.O.V.
Great article, Danny! I agree with your point of view – His Church WILL survive!!! Preach on!
As Romans 8:28 encourages us, I believe God is using this “apparent” persecution for (His) good to separate the “wheat from the chaff” in His Church.
Remember the passage:
” . . . ‘Sir, open the door for us.’
But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’
Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught us in the streets.’
But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth . . .” (Luke 13:25-28 NIV)
